Hollow Bones is a country-tinged five-piece rock band from South London, featuring violin and piano. They play storming, dark, twisted alt-country rock with shades of Johnny Cash and JJ Cale, and other country/folk/blues acts you can’t quite put your finger on. Singer/guitarist and songwriter Simon McGinley writes songs about heartbreak, such as Hasta La Vista, infused with a bone-dry black humour. Other laments, like Needles from this Severed Pine, are played straight.
Further inspiration comes from tales of murders and suicides (Nitrogen Shakes, Riding the Lightning), but also from the colourful names of wrestling holds (Guillotine Choke), classic movies from the silver screen (Fugitive Kind), and the poetry of William Blake (Kings on the Rye). To lighten the mood, the Bones often thrown in a cover or two of a classic Cure song, and showcase Hanna Fisher’s virtuoso violin on the Charlie Daniels Band classic The Devil Went Down to Georgia. Hollow Bones aim to entertain, and to leave a strong aftertaste of honey and bourbon.
